resented to us regarding his humanitarian trip to the Philippines. Dr Logan is travelling to the Philippines to provide medical PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to the medical profession there, as well as additional training as required. He is visiting the Oriental Mindoro province, which until 2018 did not have a Department of Health ambulance service and even now only has two medical vehicles – with only one configured for advanced life support.

Dr Logan is travelling to the Philippines to provide medical PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to the medical profession there, as well as additional training as required. He is visiting the Oriental Mindoro province, which until 2018 did not have a Department of Health ambulance service and even now only has two medical vehicles – with only one configured for advanced life support.The short-term goal for the province is to survive the COVID -19 pandemic, with the immediate need to supply PPE equipment, specifically N95 face masks and face shields. After this, the more medium-term requirement would be a defibrillator, ventilator, spinal board, scoop stretcher and vacuum mattresses for the medical vehicles. Whilst Peter is in the Philippines, he intends to provide community first aid training and aim for self-sufficiency (a Train the Trainer model) with education and training to identify gaps within the system and individuals and access to high quality free medical education being the longer term goal.
The Rotary Club of Coomera Valley were delighted to get involved in helping Dr Logan with his humanitarian efforts by matching the supplier of the face shields (The Evolve Group) donation of $500 for face masks and face shields. Our Club President, Tony, also wrote to the airline supporting Dr Logan’s trip, which assisted with the airline allowing Peter to take an additional 25kgs of luggage for no charge – thus he was able to take more PPE than originally planned. Dr Logan has handed over many of the face shields which have been very gratefully received as they are of better quality than those currently available and are more pleasant to wear.
In addition, we have been able to connect Dr Logan with local Rotary clubs in the Philippines via a visit from a Group Vocational Exchange from the Philippines in 2018. They have put Dr. Logan in touch with local clubs for support and have been assisting him on the ground, making things easier for him, for which he is very grateful. The International impact of Rotary in action!
